Run SY Run | Week 6 – Being Intentional

Week 6 wasn’t dramatic. Nothing major happened, and honestly that’s starting to feel normal.

I’m still getting up at 0’dark’30 in the morning, still making it to the gym, and still following the plan. The routine is familiar now. The workouts aren’t new anymore. They’re just part of the rhythm of the week.

One thing I did focus on this week was being more intentional about my movement outside of the gym. I set a goal to hit 8,000 steps each day. It doesn’t sound like much, but I realized it doesn’t happen automatically for me.

Some days it meant taking an extra walk. Other days I found myself pacing around the house just to close the gap. Sometimes it meant walking Cooper a little longer than usual. None of it was dramatic, but it required paying attention.

That was probably the biggest takeaway from this week. Progress doesn’t always come from big changes. Sometimes it comes from small habits that you decide to be more intentional about.

Right now I’m just continuing to show up, do the work, and stay consistent. The routine may feel simple, but I’m learning that consistency in the simple things is where real progress tends to come from.

🎶Allow me to re-introduce myself…..in my best H-to-the-O-V voice 🎶

The last time I left off, I was eight months into some competition prep ( link). I say some because I never set my sight on an actual date. Well, that was almost two years ago. Wow can’t believe it’s been that long.

Sooooo, what has happened in two years…..

Bikini Contest Prep – Weeks 1-2

As you all know, I have been in the running game for quite some time now (not as much lately as before but I still gets it in every now and again).  Well, last March I wanted to help my running by adding some strength training into the mix.  Somehow, I got totally hooked on lifting weights and only ran when I made the time (outside of lifting).  It was also during this time that I met several people in the figure competition world.  I saw that you had to be very disciplined, focused and determined to make that a reality.  I already posses all of those traits, so I said why not give it a try.

So here I am weeks 1-2 giving it a go.

Bikini Contest Prep

Last year I said I wanted to compete in a show before my 40th birthday. I wasn’t sure what type of show 😁, I just knew that I wanted to hit that stage.  Well my 40th  has came and went so I decided why not now.  I talked to my good friend in the business and he pointed me to a coach in my local area that knew the ropes.  My new coach recommends a bikini competition, so bikini it is.

Me on my 40th birthday getting ready to head to the beach in Puerto Vallarta!!

You can follow me right here on this journey.  I’m excited and a little nervous.  Nervous because a lot of folks say, ‘you can’t do this on a plant based diet’.  I follow a few vegans on social media that are doing it without any issues.  So, I’m sure about to see what it does and hopefully it’s not as bad as ‘them’ folks say.

Wish me luck!!! Day 1 starts tomorrow.

Week 1: Lost in Unfamiliar Territory and Birthday Surprises…Beep Beep Beep

Monday was day one of my four week training plan (first phase of 12-week training) and I just happened to be in Cary, North Carolina (close to Raleigh) of all places. I arrived in Cary around 10 o’clock Sunday evening. I knew I was going to meet up with the BGR! Raleigh crew, so I wanted to turn in and be ready for my 5:00 am run. Such a great feeling knowing that you can go to a city and have a group of sole sistahs to meet up with and run run run. Woke up that morning with no issues…I was ready!!!

Even with the weather being 34 degrees, nothing was going to stop me from getting my run on (Missy’s Get Your Freak On just popped in my head 🙂 ). I was excited for two reasons; first, I was starting my training plan that my running coach created (working on speed baby) and second, I’m in a new city and I have someone to run with. #WINNING

Wrong…I got lost 😦 …
