On Saturday, I ran in the Gamecocks Run 6K. When I first saw the flyer for the run, I was really excited!!! I’ve been a Gamecock’s fan since I can remember. So to run this and support the athletic department was a win win in my book. This race marked the first ever Gamecocks Run hosted by The University of South Carolina (USC) Athletic Department & event producer, JAM Active.
Race Day
MGC Long Run 15K-February 07, 2015
On Saturday, I ran the MGC Long Run 15K in Columbia, SC. This was the first for a couple of things. First time running in a race this year and first time running a 15K. I signed up for this race at the last minute (was very hesitant even at that point because the website indicated that late registration does not guarantee a t-shirt). YEAH!!! I run for BLING (and in this case, since it was a 15K, I knew there would be no medal, so the t-shirt counted as BLING!!!)!!! Well, I decided to sign up any way because the race was for a GREAT cause. This was a great run for many different reasons….
Run Hard Lexington Half Marathon – December 6, 2014
I trained for and ran in the Run Hard Lexington Half Marathon today. This was the first year that Run Hard partnered with the Warm A Heart PattyPacks to bring a great race to the Lexington, SC area.
Run Hard is a non-profit running club that offers an 8-week after school running program to help prepare boys for an upcoming 5K race. The Warm A Heart PattyPacks is also a non-profit organization that strives to assist families affected by lengthy stays in pediatric intensive care. I really enjoy contributing to charities that are community centered. I’m especially supportive of getting young kids moving.
One of my goals for next year is to get my son back into running. My son and I used to run the Susan Komen’s Race for the Cure, every Mother’s Day weekend (but when they stopped funding Planned Parenthood…I stopped supporting them). He ran a few 5k’s with me in the past so it would be awesome if we could tackle different races together in 2015 (fingers crossed).
Runway Run 5K- November 22, 2014
On Saturday I ran the Runway Run 5K in Columbia, SC. Since this was the final runway run at the Columbia Metropolitan Airport (CAE), I just had to check it out. This run allowed us to actually run down the airport’s runway, beginning and ending at the airplane hangar. This year the Runway Run partnered with USO as the charity beneficiary. Having served in the military myself I was happy to know that funds were supporting a great organization. Since I didn’t run my long run earlier that morning, I was ready to meet up with the ladies of BGR! Columbia and run the runway on fresh legs!!!!
Myrtle Beach Mini Marathon – October 19, 2014
I heard so many good things about this half marathon that I wanted to try it out for myself.
I arrived in Myrtle Beach on Friday evening and made it to the expo to pick up my race packet and of course take a few pictures. I think this was my first time at an expo. Usually I’m just running in to pick up packet and then leaving right back out. This time I got to take in the scene at the mini expo. #noshade
