Earlier this month, I attended the USA Track & Field (USATF) Level One Coaching Certification  course and really enjoyed it.  So I guess you’re wondering, why would a personal trainer take such a course.  Really the course is for anyone and for me it was all about learning new things to help me help others.   Since RunSYRun is branching off and starting a new fitness program, geared towards helping runners run stronger races, this course really was a great introduction to what I have in store for my future.

The Road to Dallas (Half) Marathon Dec 11-13, 2015

This post has been a long time coming. If you remember, the last part of 2015 I was in another world.  I was dealing with the loss of my auntie and the loss of one of my best friends all at the same dayum time. I can truly say, October and November were a real struggle.

At one point during that time, I was questioning if I had lost my love for running AGAIN because it just wasn’t fun anymore. While running, my mind was always filled with so many what if (s). Looking back, I really allowed myself to get swallowed up in all that had transpired.

I really believe that what doesn’t kill me, does indeed make me stronger. I finally was able to get to a point where I could say okay, it’s time to move forward and just reflect on the experiences that were shared with them both. I had some great times and that is what I will remember.

Now don’t get me wrong, the ending of my year in 2015 was not all bad.

Cycle 2: Weeks 1-3: Weathering My Own Storm

Normally after a storm comes the calm.  That wasn’t the case for me over these last few weeks.   What a helluva start to my October and my half marathon training cycle.  If you remember from my last post, Hurricane Joaquin cried down on parts of South Carolina.  The residents are still  trying to get their livelihood back after the storm flooded the area and left many homeless.  Even though I wasn’t affected by Joaquin, this month had me weathering my own storm.  I felt like a huge storm was positioned directly over my head, following me around and soaking me with heavy rain.  Oh, and let’s not forget the lightning.  Every now and again it felt as though I was getting struck, I just couldn’t breathe.

I do know however, that what doesn’t kill me will indeed make me stronger.  We learn and we grow from our past experiences and I plan to take all that has happened and do just that.  I’m also taking the time to pay attention to what my storms may be trying to tell me.
